What does it mean to support our planet? It means working together to respect and preserve this beautiful place we all call home. Limit the use of chemicals, hazardous materials, products that pollute and wasteful electricity.

So now that you are all aware, let me ask you this: What are YOU doing on March 26th at 8:30pm? If you answered turning off all the electricity in your house and supporting Earth Hour, then pat yourself on the back!

If you’re familiar with Earth Hour or even an eager newcomer, there are limitless ways to participate.  Basically you just need to know one thing: It’s all about being energy efficient!

Check out the very moving Earth Hour Video. If this doesn’t get you motivated to do your part, we don’t know what will!

There are so many easy ways to cut back on the amount of energy we use;

Wash clothes in cold water with eco friendly laundry liquids. Turn off the lights when you leave a room! Unplug chargers when you are not using them. Eat locally when you can to reduce your carbon foot print.  Walk instead of drive. With beautiful spring approaching, it’s great to get into the habit after being locked up indoors during the past couple of months. Not only does this cut back on pollution but it’ll also get you nice and fit for the warmer weather coming up.

Those are all great tips, but you’re probably wondering what to do with the lights out & no electricity?  Here are some ideas:

  • Make a party out of it!  Invite friends/family over, play board games by candlelight (beeswax or soy please & no lead wicks ;)  If the weather is nice outside, get to know your neighbours and set up a block party.
  • Find your local Earth Hour website for events happening close to you. http://www.earthhour.org/
  • Keep it clean! Try cleaning areas of the home that are open and don’t get much attention – try cleaning the floors – but be safe!  You’ll be pleasantly surprised when the lights come back on!

Earth Hour is a great time to remind ourselves to wash away old dirty habits, and enter spring with a clean house and an environmentally friendly conscience. It’s only an hour and not only will you feel great afterwards but your house will thank you. Go the extra mile by using all-natural healthy alternatives.
