As winter fades, the snow is starting to disappear and daylight is here to stay a little while longer. So it’s time clean out the winter gear, wash the door mats and get the house into tip top condition to welcome spring time.
Nature Clean® wants to get you away from unnecessary ingredients while you prepare for a fresh new season! So let’s start crossing them off your list.
Parabens
This is a great example that cheap things aren’t always the better choice. Used in a wide variety of products, this low-cost preservative has shown to be a weak mimicker of estrogen – a hormone known to contribute to the development of breast cancer. Although there is no proven causal relation, it is suspected of increasing the risk of breast cancer. Not only can it cause skin irritation and allergic reactions but it is also a known organ system toxicant. Be sure to check the product labels clearly as this ingredient is often accompanied by a prefix such as methyl, propyl, butyl or ethyl.
Found in: personal care products, shampoos, conditioners, moisturizers, sunscreen, toothpaste, deodorant, soap, makeup
Ethylene Diamine Tetra Acetic Acid (EDTA)
This preservative has a long name but don’t let it sneak into your family of household products. It may not be directly harmful while you’re using a product containing this ingredient but EDTA also doesn’t biodegrade. In fact, it stays in our streams and lakes after it’s flushed down the drain. With its ability to remobilize heavy metals in our waterways, this sediment can eventually end up in our food chain!
Found in: bar soaps, shampoos, household cleaners
Optical Brighteners
If you’re thinking ‘how could something be so much whiter than it is clean?’ you’re looking at the deceiving work of chemicals called optical brighteners. They are little particles that stick to your clothing like no tomorrow. So, when your clothes dry, these particles reflect light, making your whites look wonderfully bright and white. The catch is… your skin may be the price you have to pay to get your clothes to look whiter than white. The particles that bind onto your clothes can rub off into your skin and cause skin sensitivities.
Found in: laundry liquids, powders
So while you clean out your house make sure these ingredients are not hiding in your products. At Nature Clean®, you can be assured that our products will keep you safe and clean as they are free from these unpleasant non-ingredients!
