What is Ammonium Laureth Sulfate (ALES)?
Ammonium Laureth Sulfate is the ammonium salt of sulfated ethoxylated lauryl alcohol. It can be derived from coconut. ALES acts as a surfactant (a foaming and cleansing agent) that poses serious health threats. This ingredient is found in car washes, garage floor cleaners, engine degreasers and 90 percent of personal-care products that foam – it’s in most of the cosmetic products we use each day! What is Lanolin?
Lanolin is a waxy substance secreted by the glands of wool-bearing animals. Most lanolin we use comes from domestic sheep. Lanolin's role in nature is to protect wool and skin against the climate and the environment. It is therefore not surprising that lanolin and its derivatives are often used in products designed to protect, treat and beautify our skin. Many of the personal care products we use each day contain lanolin such as shampoos, shaving creams, moisturizers, eye makeup, lipstick, sun
