Summer is nearing its end and that means school will be starting back up in no time. So why not make the most of these last few weeks? Here are some ideas of what you and your family can do to celebrate before school gets back underway:

Plan a Picnic

Whether you go to the park or to the beach, a picnic is a great way to spend a warm, summer afternoon. Pack your lunch, some lemonade, and of course, a blanket, and head out to your favourite location. If you go to a large open area, be sure to bring activities to keep your kids occupied – like a Frisbee or soccer ball. And make sure to pack lots of sunscreen!

Go to the Zoo

Who doesn’t love going to see exotic animals and exhibits? Plan a day trip to the zoo or go on a safari adventure! Just remember, don’t feed the animals!

Visit a Farm

Farms have many activities to partake in, including picking your own fruits and veggies! Other activities may include tractor rides and mazes – perfect for the whole family!

Play Games Outside

Turn off the TV and that means no video games either! Get the whole family (and friends) outside and play a game for while. It can be as simple as getting out a deck of cards, playing eye spy, lawn bowling, or playing a board game.

Backyard Barbeque

What better way to enjoy the weather than to have a barbeque! Invite your family, friends, and neighbours and celebrate with good food and some great music!

Organize an Arts & Crafts Day

When the weather isn’t so nice, an indoor activity is a great way to enjoy the day. Planning a craft can be as easy as going to the nearest dollar store to pick up supplies. Here’s a great website with some easy-to-do crafts for kids: http://www.easy-child-crafts.com/.

Movie Marathon

Pop some popcorn and relax in the comfort of your home while watching some of your favourite movies. Whether you want to catch up on 2011’s blockbusters or enjoy movies from back in the day, a movie marathon is a great way to spend a rainy afternoon!
